Manickam Tagore, the Congress whip in Lok Sabha, initiated a breach of privilege motion against Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju. The charge: Rijiju allegedly misled the House by attributing false statements to Karnataka's Deputy Chief Minister, D K Shivakumar.
Tagore's notice to Speaker Om Birla claims that on March 24, Rijiju misrepresented Shivakumar's words, now refuted as false. Such misrepresentation breaches parliamentary privilege, constituting contempt. The demand is clear: initiate privilege proceedings against Rijiju.
Compounded by the BJP's counter-accusations, Congress refutes claims of planning a constitutional amendment for religion-based quotas. D K Shivakumar insists his words are misquoted and denies the allegations of wanting to change the Constitution.
