Senior BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari has raised alarms over an alleged demographic shift occurring in multiple districts of West Bengal, citing a rise in individuals settling illegally. The leader's remarks came during the 'Kanya Suraksha Yatra' in Bankura town.
Adhikari blamed the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) for facilitating this infiltration, claiming it compromises national security. He pointed to districts such as North and South 24 Parganas, Murshidabad, Birbhum, and Malda as areas experiencing significant changes. He warned that without intervention, West Bengal might soon resemble a different geographic identity.
The opposition leader pushed for a Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls to remove over 17 lakh names allegedly belonging to Bangladeshi and Rohingya settlers before the 2026 state elections. Adhikari accused the TMC of delaying this essential process in a bid to retain power through underhanded tactics.
