The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced that Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, has not responded to a June letter concerning his allegations of election rigging in the Maharashtra Assembly elections.
The ECI's letter, dated June 12, extended an invitation to Gandhi to discuss his concerns, expressing willingness to meet at a mutually convenient time. The poll body noted that similar issues were raised by the Congress post the 2024 assembly elections, to which the ECI had responded.
The ECI's disclosure comes amid claims by Gandhi of electoral malpractice, alleging a flawed procedure. Meanwhile, the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance achieved a sweeping victory in the Maharashtra polls, while the Congress suffered a significant defeat.
