In a recent escalation of his longstanding battle with the media, U.S. President Donald Trump called for the revocation of broadcasting licenses used by Walt Disney's ABC affiliates, citing unfavorable news coverage. Trump's remarks followed a question posed to him by an ABC reporter regarding the Jeffrey Epstein political scandal during a meeting with Saudi Arabia's crown prince.

Trump criticized ABC for what he deemed 'fake news,' urging Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chair Brendan Carr to consider removing their licenses. Carr, seen as an ally of Trump, recently visited him in Florida. In the past, Trump has commended Carr for pressuring broadcasters, such as ABC, to remove controversial figures like late-night host Jimmy Kimmel from the airwaves.

Despite Trump's repeated threats, experts remind that the FCC, a federal agency, distributes licenses to individual stations, not entire networks. Democratic Commissioner Anna Gomez has reassured that the FCC lacks the legal basis to restrict media based on their coverage, maintaining that Trump's attempts to do so are ultimately empty threats.
