The Lok Sabha proceedings were abruptly adjourned on Monday following persistent protests by opposition parties demanding discussions on the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. Despite the disruptions, a bill amending GST law in Manipur was passed with little debate.
Introduced by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, the bill seeks to replace an existing ordinance, necessitated by the state's current President's rule status. Before being adjourned around 2.20 PM, the House faced two prior suspensions during Question Hour in the morning and later in the afternoon.
The Winter session's opening day, marked by 15 scheduled sittings, was plagued by disruptions. Opposition members vigorously protested, eager for debate. Despite the chaos, Sitharaman introduced additional bills, including those impacting tobacco excise duty and a new cess for pan masala manufacturing.
