On Saturday, Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Kalyan Banerjee accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of attempting to disrupt Hindu-Muslim unity in order to remain in power at the Centre. He emphasized Mamata Banerjee's long-term efforts to promote harmony as a Youth Congress leader.

Speaking at a TMC-organized event, Banerjee cited the annual observance of 'Sanhati Diwas' (Unity Day) on December 6—a tradition initiated by Mamata Banerjee after the Babri Mosque demolition in 1992—as evidence of her commitment to unity. He criticized the CPI(M) for failing to support minorities during that strife.

TMC Minister Firhad Hakim echoed these sentiments, stating that secularism must be upheld. Emphasizing India's strength in diversity, Hakim praised Mamata Banerjee's approach to unity and highlighted recent legal victories reinforcing citizenship rights.
