The Maharashtra legislative council chairman, Ram Shinde, announced the receipt of a proposal to appoint a leader of opposition, a role unfilled since July. Stakeholder consultations are underway to make this decision.
This potential absence of an opposition leader in both Houses could mark a first in the state legislature's history. The winter session in Nagpur is set to run from December 8 to 14, bringing these concerns to the forefront.
Additionally, Shinde provided updates on a breach of privilege motion against comedian Kunal Kamra, which has been referred to the Privileges Committee. Efforts are being made to ensure regional issues receive adequate attention during the upcoming session.
