The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has mobilized its booth-level agents for a detailed, door-to-door audit of voter deletions in Bhabanipur, West Bengal. This action follows the striking off of nearly 45,000 names from the draft electoral rolls under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise, significantly shrinking the electorate in Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's assembly constituency.
As per Election Commission records, Bhabanipur, which had 2,06,295 voters in early 2025, now lists only 1,61,509, reflecting a substantial cut of 44,787 names. This represents nearly 21.7% of the constituency's voters, and the TMC is especially concerned about those marked as 'dead', 'shifted', or 'absent'.
Despite over 58 lakh voter deletions across West Bengal due to various reasons, the TMC insists on verifying each invalidated name to ensure legitimacy. Within Bhabanipur, further scrutiny is focused on wards 70, 72, and 77, areas notably impacted by the revisions. The party has reiterated its commitment to assist affected voters through the verification processes by deploying 'May I Help You' camps and volunteer support.
