On Thursday, a group of opposition MPs staged a protest march within the Parliament House complex, challenging the government's controversial VB-G RAM G bill and demanding its repeal. Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge vowed to oppose the government's move both in Parliament and on the streets.
The protest, marked by a large banner reading 'Mahatma Gandhi NREGA,' saw participants march from the Gandhi statue at Prerna Sthal to Makar Dwar, loudly voicing objections against the ruling administration. Among the demonstrators were Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, AICC general secretary K C Venugopal, and other prominent leaders from various parties.
Kharge criticized the government for insulting Mahatma Gandhi and infringing on the right to work, pivotal in India's socio-economic rural transformation. The opposition strongly opposes the VB-G RAM G bill, which plans to replace the UPA-era MGNREGA, proposing a guarantee of 125 days of wage employment for rural households.
