In an inspiring display of democratic commitment, two centenarians and a 98-year-old former teacher captivated Thane voters as they cast their ballots in Thursday's civic polls. Their determination to participate underscores the enduring spirit of democracy, setting a poignant example for the nation's youth.
Among them, 103-year-old Balchandra Nalawade stood out, arriving without assistance and rejecting a wheelchair at Ward number 11. Sporting a hat, Nalawade expressed that age is no barrier to fulfilling one's civic duty. A retired sales tax official, he emphasized to younger voters the importance of exercise their right to vote.
Likewise, 101-year-old Parvati Ramesh Walanj, a stalwart supporter of Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray, and 98-year-old former teacher Leela Shrotri, demonstrated unwavering determination. Shrotri, aided by a former pupil, highlighted the significance of participating in elections, reinforcing her lifelong commitment to education and community service.
