The latest Mumbai civic elections have witnessed a decline in voter turnout, registering 52.94% compared to 55.53% in 2017. Officials reported that the suburban area of Bhandup saw the highest polling at 64.53%, whereas Colaba marked the lowest with just 20.88% turnout.
This crucial voting event, held from 7.30 am to 5.30 pm, engaged over 1.03 crore eligible voters in the metropolis. The final voter turnout was declared over 15 hours post-polling by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), signaling a momentous political contest.
The election for the 227-member BMC, commanding a Rs 74,400 crore budget, drew nearly 1,700 candidates. This contest arrives after a significant hiatus, with counting set to commence at 10 am across 25 designated centers in Mumbai, underscoring the city's vibrant political landscape.
