In a pointed critique, the Congress party has accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of demonstrating 'willful blindness' towards critical issues in his recent Lok Sabha speech, particularly around the contentious delimitation process. According to Congress officials, the government's failure to genuinely consult states over the proposed legislative changes, including the women's quota law amendment, suggests an attempt to sidestep constitutional norms.
Jairam Ramesh, Congress general secretary, decried the lack of meaningful discourse in Modi's address, which spanned 40 minutes. He alleged the government disregarded calls for an all-party meeting post-election campaigns in Tamil Nadu and West Bengal, undermining bipartisan trust and transparency in decision-making.
Ramesh further criticized Modi for superficial engagement on issues such as social representation while highlighting concerns from multiple states about potential regional marginalization. As crucial votes loom on the proposed bills, the Congress asserts its commitment to challenging what it regards as constitutional subversion by the current administration.
