BJP leader Dilip Ghosh criticized West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday for her refusal to resign following her party's defeat. As the victorious candidate from Kharagpur spoke to the media, Ghosh commented on the impermanence of political power, suggesting that the Chief Minister should step down.
Meanwhile, West Bengal BJP president Samik Bhattacharya highlighted constitutional protocols amidst Banerjee's controversial decision to hold onto power. He reminded the public that the Constitution should guide the aftermath of the state assembly elections, stressing the supremacy of constitutional provisions over personal stands.
The BJP's considerable victory, securing 207 seats against TMC's 80, has led West Bengal into a political standoff. Banerjee protested the election results, accusing the Election Commission and BJP of manipulating the democratic process. Despite alleging electoral malpractice, she expressed her intention to pivot her influence toward fortifying the INDIA Alliance.
In a dramatic series of events, Banerjee branded the Chief Election Commissioner as a 'villain' and accused the commission of EVM tampering. She described herself metaphorically as a 'free bird,' hinting at her plans to recast her role on a national scale, while asserting that her party remains the moral victor despite the electoral defeat. Nonetheless, she indicated that her focus now shifts towards ensuring her party's continued relevance at the national level, as BJP prepares for their first governance in the state after a 15-year TMC reign.
