BJP leader Debashish Samantaray filed his nomination for the Rajya Sabha by-election at the Odisha Assembly premises, Bhubaneswar, showcasing the party's unified front. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, along with Odisha BJP President Manmohan Samal and other senior leaders, accompanied him, marking strong party support for Samantaray’s candidacy.
Samantaray, reflecting on his exit from the BJD, expressed that the emergence of a South Indian individual as Naveen Babu's successor during the 2024 elections hurt Odia sentiments. He attributed the party's regression and defeat to this. He also acknowledged Prime Minister Narendra Modi and key BJP personnel for their support upon his move from BJD, citing a leadership vacuum in his former party.
The Election Commission recently announced biennial elections for 24 Rajya Sabha seats across ten states, including a bypoll in Odisha. The BJP has put forward 11 candidates for these elections, cementing their strategy for the upcoming political contests in the nation's upper house.
