Bhupesh Baghel and Ajay Sharma from the All India Congress Committee (AICC) arrived in Ranchi on Saturday, setting the stage for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections in Jharkhand. Prior to their visit, the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) announced its candidate for the seat, hinting at a thaw in its relations with Congress.
Initially, JMM intended to contest both vacant seats as Congress had already declared its candidate. However, recent developments suggest a shift towards cooperation, as the Congress revealed its list of candidates for the June 18 Rajya Sabha elections, including party chief Mallikarjun Kharge from Karnataka.
The Congress has also fielded Mansoor Ali Khan and Pawan Khera from Karnataka, Meenakshi Natarajan from Madhya Pradesh, Neeraj Dangi from Rajasthan, Praveen Chakravarty from Tamil Nadu, and Pranav Jha from Jharkhand. The Election Commission announced biennial elections for 24 Rajya Sabha seats, with the nomination deadline set for June 8.
