European Leaders Unite at Downing Street to Discuss Ukraine Peace Initiatives
European leaders including Keir Starmer, Volodymyr Zelenskiy, Emmanuel Macron, and Friedrich Merz convened at Downing Street to discuss Europe's role in supporting Ukraine and ending the ongoing conflict. Despite Zelenskiy's proposal for direct talks with Putin, tensions remain as both sides accuse each other of inflexibility.
In a high-stakes diplomatic meeting at Downing Street, Keir Starmer played host to Ukraine's Volodymyr Zelenskiy, Germany's Friedrich Merz, and France's Emmanuel Macron. The main agenda was to explore European support for Ukraine in the war effort and to seek ways to end the ongoing conflict.
Zelenskiy emphasized the importance of air defence cooperation and a united European stance on diplomatic avenues, pointing out that Europe must be an integral part of the peace negotiations. The alliance known as the E3, consisting of Britain, France, and Germany, emerged as a critical support pillar for Ukraine.
Meanwhile, Zelenskiy's proposal for direct talks with Vladimir Putin was rejected by the Russian leader, who questioned the sincerity of the offer. Yet, with U.S. President Donald Trump's peace propositions on the table, Putin suggested that peace could be achievable if Kyiv is ready to negotiate.
