The INDIA Bloc gathered at the Constitution Club in Delhi on Monday, focusing on mending alliance rifts following recent electoral defeats in four states and a union territory. Congress, seeking to portray a unified front, announced that 23 parties would attend, despite underlying challenges to maintain cohesion.
The alliance faces a significant challenge in opposing the ruling BJP-led NDA, especially after TMC, DMK, and CPI(M) suffered substantial losses in the assembly elections. Mamata Banerjee, M.K. Stalin, and Pinarayi Vijayan, once seen as formidable leaders capable of challenging the BJP, now deal with tarnished images post-poll results.
The DMK opted out of the meeting, denouncing Congress's alliance with Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam as a betrayal, further highlighting internal discord. Simultaneously, tensions with the CPI(M) persist, despite MP John Brittas confirming attendance. AAP has also distanced itself, having exited the bloc previously.
