Franco-German Defense Collaboration: A New Era in Air Defence Networks
Germany and France are set to outline a reworked collaboration project on air defence data networks by July. The agreement follows the suspension of a joint fighter jet project, focusing instead on enhancing data connectivity between warplanes using a 'combat cloud' system.
On Wednesday, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz announced that German and French defense ministers will present a reworked collaboration project on air defence data networks by July.
Speaking at the Berlin air show, Merz elaborated that the joint effort aims to finalize its implementation ahead of the forthcoming Franco-German intergovernmental meeting this summer in Germany.
The decision marks a strategic pivot from the countries' prior project, the FCAS fighter jet, towards improving data links and software for warplanes, known as a 'combat cloud.'
