Evacuation Alerts Issued After Massive Pacific Earthquake
Authorities in Ecuador and Chile issued evacuations after a large earthquake initiated tsunami warnings across the Pacific. On Chile's Easter Island, residents moved to higher ground, and similar precautions were taken in Ecuador's Galapagos Islands, with the emergency management agency guiding residents to designated safe zones.
On Wednesday, authorities across Ecuador and Chile's Pacific islands initiated evacuations in response to a massive earthquake that prompted tsunami warnings throughout the Pacific Ocean.
In a swift response, residents and tourists on Chile's Easter Island, 3,700 kilometers from South America's mainland, moved to a church situated on higher ground as a precautionary measure. Concurrently, similar evacuation efforts were underway along the mainland's Pacific coast.
In Ecuador's Galapagos Islands, located approximately 970 kilometers from the continent, the government instructed individuals residing in vulnerable coastal regions to proceed to safe zones, as directed by the national emergency management agency. These proactive measures aim to ensure safety and prevent casualties.
