Massive Demolition Drive Targets Illegal Structures in Gandhinagar
Authorities in Gandhinagar have initiated a large-scale demolition drive to remove illegal encroachments on government land along the Sabarmati riverbank. By Thursday afternoon, 150 out of approximately 700 identified structures were demolished. The Gandhinagar civic administration commenced a significant demolition operation early Thursday morning, targeting about 1 lakh square metres of government land encroached along the Sabarmati riverbank, as stated by a senior police official.
In the Gujarat capital, almost 700 illegal structures were earmarked for demolition, with around 150 of them dismantled by the afternoon, according to authorities.
The Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation (GMC), the state Roads and Buildings (R&B) department, and local police launched the drive at approximately 4 am in the Pethapur area, as confirmed by District Superintendent of Police Ravi Teja Vasamsetty.
