The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) is taking decisive action to address the city's stray dog issue by announcing the development of three new shelters. This move follows concerns over public safety and the need for improved management of the stray dog population.
The MCD's initiative comes after the judiciary and the Supreme Court have repeatedly highlighted the necessity for enhanced sterilization and vaccination efforts. The new facilities are planned in Dwarka, Bella Road, and Bijwasan, with the Dwarka shelter already under construction.
In addition to new shelters, the MCD will implement strict penalties on NGO-operated sterilization centres should they report rabies cases or failed sterilisations. This initiative aims to better balance public safety with animal welfare in the capital.
