In a dramatic development, Kankati, a notorious tigress, escaped her designated enclosure in the Mukundra Hills Tiger Reserve on Tuesday morning, causing panic and briefly halting traffic in the area.
The tigress, which has a history of fatal attacks, returned to the forest enclosure later that day, according to Muthu S, Deputy Conservator of Forest at Mukundra Hills. Kankati, radio-collared for monitoring, had crossed a road before returning.
Criticism arose regarding safety protocols, with wildlife enthusiast Brijesh Vijayvergiya blaming the forest department for inadequate measures, citing past incidents of wildlife fatalities near roads.
