India's women's cricket team captain Harmanpreet Kaur has acknowledged that significant improvements are needed before the upcoming T20 World Cup, following a heavy eight-wicket loss to Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup final. India posted 165 for 6, but Sri Lankan captain Chamari Athapaththu and Harshitha Samarawickrama spearheaded the chase, achieving the target in 18.4 overs.

The T20 World Cup is scheduled to take place in Bangladesh later in October. During the post-match ceremony, Harmanpreet admitted that her team's bowling was below par, failing to secure crucial breakthroughs.

Sri Lanka celebrated their maiden major international success, with Athapaththu expressing joy over the performance. She highlighted the exceptional batting efforts of Harshitha and Dilhari as instrumental to their victory. With eyes on the T20 World Cup, Athapaththu emphasized continuing their positive momentum in upcoming matches.
