A record-breaking number of Indian cricket enthusiasts flocked to Australia for the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy, as reported by cricket.com.au. This season witnessed an unprecedented six-fold rise in ticket sales originating from India, compared to the previous tour in 2018/19.

Official figures indicated that more than 6,000 fans traveled from India, complemented by those purchasing tickets through connections in Australia. Their presence underscored the burgeoning appeal of Australian cricket in India, with significant impacts on local tourism. Indian fans topped the international ticket sales charts, surpassing traditional markets like the UK and USA. The Melbourne Cricket Ground's Boxing Day Test was particularly popular, with Indian travelers accounting for over two-thirds of tickets sold for that match alone. The series attracted a total of 837,879 spectators, ranking fourth in attendance for any Test series in Australia, and the highest for non-Ashes series, with nearly 5% of tickets purchased from overseas. Viewership figures were also notable, with eight sessions averaging over 2 million viewers and 40 sessions exceeding one million.

Cricket Australia remains committed to fostering a welcoming environment for diverse audiences, implementing initiatives such as Indian fan supporter bays and cultural celebrations at stadiums. Joel Morrison, Cricket Australia's Executive GM of Events and Operations, expressed delight at the country becoming a top destination for Indian cricket fans, highlighting the elevated energy they bring to the sport. Morrison emphasized the role of cricket in promoting international tourism and trade, recognizing the vital contributions of Indian fans. Looking ahead, Australian grounds are set to host the Indian men's and women's teams in upcoming international series, promising thrilling cricket and enthusiastic traveling fan engagement.
