Rohit Sharma, a legend in Indian cricket, announced on Wednesday his retirement from Test cricket, a move that has stirred the cricketing community. The 38-year-old had already retired from T20 Internationals last year after leading India to a World Cup victory.
With Rohit's departure, India now faces the challenge of appointing a new captain for an imminent five-match series against England, starting June 20. Potential candidates include Jasprit Bumrah, who is struggling with fitness issues, KL Rahul, Shubman Gill, and Rishabh Pant.
Despite stepping down from Tests, Rohit will continue captaining the national team in ODIs. His career has seen him score over 11,000 runs and win two ICC tournaments. He aims to remain fit for the 2027 ODI World Cup.
