Amgen, an American multinational biopharmaceutical company, announced the launch of a new technology and innovation hub in Hyderabad on Friday.

The site, named Amgen India, aims to enhance the company's digital capabilities globally to advance its medicine pipeline, a company press release stated.

Planned to be situated in the HITEC city, the Amgen India facility will house up to 3,000 employees and is expected to be operational by the fourth quarter of 2024.

David M. Reese, executive vice president and chief technology officer at Amgen, emphasized the significance of this development, citing India's renowned tech and life sciences talent. He stated, "Establishing this new site in India marks a significant step forward in our mission to serve patients."

Hyderabad's Chief Minister, A Revanth Reddy, welcomed the initiative, highlighting the city's status as a technological and innovative hub. He said, "Amgen's new site underscores Hyderabad's position as a center for innovation. We are proud to welcome a global trailblazer in biotechnology."

The new site will initially focus on building and accelerating technology solutions and digital capabilities to enhance enterprise efficiencies. The facility will provide roles in AI, data science, life sciences, and other global capabilities over time.

To lead the expanded operations in India, Amgen has appointed Som Chattopadhyay as the national executive.

With nearly 27,000 employees, Amgen operates in approximately 100 countries, including a significant presence in India.
