India Surpasses China as Top Smartphone Manufacturer for US Market
India has become the leading manufacturing hub for smartphones sold in the US, surpassing China for the first time in Q2 2025. This shift is attributed to Apple's supply chain reorientation to India amid uncertain US-China trade relations. Made-in-India smartphone imports to the US have surged by 240%.

India has overtaken China as the foremost manufacturing hub for smartphones destined for the US market, a shift that occurred for the first time in the second quarter of 2025. This monumental change is largely due to the evolving trade dynamics between the US and China, prompting companies like Apple to rethink their supply chains.
According to Canalys, whose research is now part of Omdia, US smartphone shipments experienced a modest growth of 1% in the same period. This growth comes amid a backdrop of vendors managing inventories to counteract potential tariff impacts. The data also reveals that the percentage of US smartphone imports assembled in China dropped sharply to 25% from 61% a year ago.
The contraction in China's share has been largely picked up by India, whose exports to the US market in this sector have skyrocketed by 240% year-on-year, now accounting for 44% of smartphone shipments, a massive leap from 13% in Q2 2024.
