Russia Suspends Ferry Service Following Ukrainian Attack on Fuel-Carrying Vessel
Russia has temporarily halted its ferry service to Crimea after a Ukrainian assault on a vessel loaded with fuel. The attacked ferry, which sank partially, was carrying rail cars with fuel to Crimea. An alternative overland route is being used temporarily for cargo transport.
Russia has suspended a ferry service between southern Russia and Crimea following a Ukrainian attack that hit a vessel loaded with rail cars carrying fuel, the Russian Transport Ministry announced today.
Ukraine's Navy confirmed the destruction of the ferry at Port Kavkaz in Russia's Krasnodar region. The port is a significant access point on the Black Sea and has been used for transporting fuel and weapons to Crimea, annexed by Russia from Ukraine in 2014.
The Russian ministry stated the ferry service will remain suspended during clean-up efforts and that an alternative overland route will temporarily take over cargo transport duties.
