DGCA Intensifies Audit at Air India Amid Safety Concerns

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has initiated a detailed audit at Air India's main base in Gurugram, covering various operational aspects. The audit follows a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner crash in Ahmedabad, which resulted in 270 fatalities.

The Tata Group-run airline faces increased scrutiny, with an eight-member DGCA team undertaking a comprehensive review typically conducted by a three-member group. Focus areas include operations, flight planning, scheduling, rostering, and the Integrated Operations Control Centre.

This audit coincides with DGCA's heightened examination of Air India amidst safety violations. Recent actions include a show-cause notice for Flight Duty Time Limitation breaches and removal of three senior airline officials. A new audit framework aims at a holistic safety ecosystem evaluation.
