In response to the recent spate of flight cancellations, Central Railway is deploying six special trains to accommodate the growing number of passengers opting for rail travel over December 6 and 7. The move aims to alleviate the congestion resulting from the sudden shift in travel modes across the nation.
According to Swapnil Nila, CR's chief public relations officer, the special trains will run specific routes, including Pune to New Delhi and Lokmanya Tilak Terminus to Lucknow. This initiative is part of a broader national effort by Indian Railways, which involves augmenting 37 trains with an additional 116 coaches, providing relief to waiting passengers.
Meanwhile, Western Railway has also announced temporary enhancements to its services, adding extra coaches to four long-distance trains from December 6 to 10. The efforts come as major airlines, such as IndiGo, grapple with operational challenges, causing frustration at airports and an increase in rail travel demand.
