The vice chancellor of Dr B R Ambedkar University Delhi, Anu Singh Lather, announced a strategic shift away from using the term 'Indian Knowledge System' to 'Bharatiya Knowledge System'. According to Lather, this choice underscores the university's commitment to cultural identity and academic autonomy.
In a recent interview, Lather highlighted the institution's move to integrate 54 mandatory Bharatiya Knowledge System courses across departments like history, law, and political philosophy. The comprehensive curriculum aims to embed indigenous knowledge frameworks in higher education, featuring content from foundational texts such as the Upanishads and Mahabharata.
Lather explained the courses were meticulously developed with input from national experts and underwent rigorous academic evaluation. Positioning the university as a leader under the National Education Policy, Lather stated the initiative reflects Babasaheb Ambedkar's ideals and strives to reclaim indigenous intellectual traditions while reshaping postcolonial academic discourse.
