In a decisive move, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has declared that Delhi parents will not be forced into 'single-vendor diktats' for school essentials like uniforms, books, and stationery. In a statement on Thursday, Gupta strictly instructed schools to allow freedom of choice for parents when purchasing these items.
Gupta leveraged her authority by announcing spontaneous inspections to ensure compliance. 'I can walk into any private school in Delhi for an inspection, anytime, my inspections are not a gimmick. They are enforcement in action,' she expressed through a social media post. Schools must publicly state on their notice boards and websites that parents have the liberty to purchase school items from any vendor.
Inspections have already revealed significant issues; one school was found lacking a valid fire safety certificate and operating an unlicensed swimming pool. These revelations underscore the seriousness of the initiative. Gupta has made it clear that any neglect in following these directives will not be tolerated, hinting at potential government intervention for errant institutions.
