The Kerala High Court has called for a comprehensive report from the state government following a violent incident at a Kozhikode temple festival where two elephants ran amok. The chaos resulted in the tragic deaths of three elderly individuals and injured more than 20 attendees.
Justices Anil K Narendran and Muralee Krishna S have instructed the Guruvayur Devaswom Board's livestock official to present relevant documents, including the elephants' feeding records, at the hearing set for February 17. The court is also awaiting statements from both the Forest Department and local police.
The tumult began when crackers were set off during the festival, causing the elephants to panic and attack each other. In their frenzy, they struck a building, leading to a collapse that claimed lives. The elephants' escape triggered a stampede, exacerbating the chaos and injuries among the frightened crowd.
