In a decision that has sparked controversy, Tottenham Hotspur has relocated the Progress Pride flag for a Champions League match against Sparta Prague at the request of the visiting Czech team. The rainbow flag, a symbol of support for the LGBTQ+ community, was usually located in the stadium's north-east corner but has now been shifted to the south-west corner.
The request made to UEFA by the Czech team cited security grounds as the reason for the move. Proud Lilywhites, Tottenham's official LGBTQI+ supporters group, expressed their disappointment, stating that the issue is not about the flag itself but rather the potential reaction from a small group of opposition supporters.
While Tottenham attempted to keep the flag in its original place, the club ultimately agreed to the relocation due to perceived safety risks. This incident serves as a reminder of the challenges LGBTQ+ fans continue to face in European football arenas.
