The Andaman and Nicobar administration has initiated a project seeking public input to rename 586 uninhabited islands within the archipelago, an official source has revealed.
Among the 836 islands, merely 31 are inhabited, prompting a call for names that honor local tribal heritage, freedom fighters, unique flora and fauna, and significant historical events.
The Survey of India will provide technical support for this task, ensuring updated maps align with the final approved names, reinforcing the archipelago's cultural and historical integrity.
