Dua Lipa Sues Samsung Over Image Use in TV Marketing
Dua Lipa has initiated legal action against Samsung Electronics, demanding $15 million for using her photo on TV packaging without consent. Her legal team argues this act dilutes her brand and implies her endorsement of Samsung products. Samsung attributes the oversight to a third-party content provider.
British pop sensation Dua Lipa has taken legal action against tech giant Samsung Electronics, demanding $15 million in damages. Lipa accuses Samsung of using her image without permission on TV packaging, which she claims falsely implies her endorsement of their products.
The lawsuit, filed in a California federal court, alleges that an image titled "Dua Lipa - Backstage at Austin City Limits, 2024" was used without securing her consent. Samsung has denied intentional wrongdoing, stating a third-party partner assured them that proper permissions were obtained.
Lipa's legal representation cited social media posts to evidence the confusion and supposed endorsement by the pop star, claiming Samsung's actions harm her brand identity. Despite early awareness and requests for cessation last year, Lipa's legal team says Samsung continued using the image.
