A total of seventeen Naxalites laid down their arms in Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh, according to a police official. The surrender reflects ongoing pressure on the Maoist cadres within the region.

Earlier in February, authorities reported the arrest of 18 Naxalites, who were found in possession of explosives. The operations took place at three locations, including Gunjeperti and Rajpenta forests, underlining the heightened activity of security forces in the area.

Significantly, a joint effort by the District Reserve Guard and Bhairamgarh Police resulted in the apprehension of a Maoist insurgent. Moreover, a major encounter saw security forces neutralizing 31 Naxalites. Despite the success, the operation came at a cost of two soldiers, drawing commendations from Chhattisgarh's Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai.
