In a strategic move to bolster its defence sector, the New Zealand government announced a revision of its defence procurement rules alongside the launch of a new military technology fund. This initiative aims to invigorate local industry as government expenditure in the sector is expected to rise significantly.

Defence Minister Judith Collins revealed an ambitious plan to increase defence spending by NZ$9 billion over four years, with a target to nearly double this to 2% of GDP in eight years. The Defence Industry Strategy introduces procurement rules that mandate multinational suppliers to incorporate local businesses in supplying and maintaining defence capabilities.

Additionally, a new fund ranging from NZ$100 million to NZ$300 million is set to foster advanced military technology development. The move underscores the government's commitment to nurturing innovation and redefining local industry partnerships to address strategic challenges effectively.
