Tragedy Strikes Again: Crane Collapses in Thailand
Two crane accidents in Thailand, involving the Italian-Thai Development PCL company, have resulted in multiple fatalities and injuries. The government has moved to cancel contracts and pause ongoing projects with ITD pending a review. The incidents highlight safety issues amidst Thailand's infrastructure expansion.
A fatal crane accident occurred in Thailand on Thursday, claiming two lives as it crushed vehicles near Bangkok. This follows another tragic crane incident in the northeast that led to a train derailment and the deaths of 32 passengers.
Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul announced the termination of two contracts with the construction firm Italian-Thai Development PCL, implicated in both accidents. The government is pursuing legal action and reviewing other ongoing projects by the firm for safety compliance.
Transport minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn revealed that many active ITD projects have been paused. Italian-Thai accepted responsibility and promised stricter safety standards. This comes amid Thailand's significant infrastructure expansion efforts, with investigations ongoing into both incidents.
