Assam Rifles Foils Massive Smuggling Operations in Mizoram
The Assam Rifles have thwarted major smuggling operations, apprehending an individual involved in illegal transportation of foreign currency, tobacco, and cigarettes in Mizoram's Siaha district. Significant recoveries included Burmese Kyat and contraband worth over Rs 1.8 lakh, handed over for legal proceedings.

In a decisive operation, Assam Rifles successfully intercepted illegal transportation of foreign currency, tobacco, and foreign cigarettes in Mizoram's Siaha district on Tuesday. Acting on specific intelligence, they established a Mobile Vehicle Check Post in Tuipang to intercept the consignment.
At approximately 3:35 am, the team stopped a tipper, uncovering Burmese Kyat valued at 1.75 crore, alongside two cases of tobacco worth Rs 50,000 and a case of foreign cigarettes worth Rs 1,30,000. An individual, U Phyu Maung, a resident of Myanmar's Rakhine State, was apprehended in connection with the smuggling.
The contraband and the suspect have been handed over to Tuipang Police for further legal actions. Only days earlier, on Sunday, another seizure of illegal foreign currency took place, highlighting the Assam Rifles' ongoing efforts in combating organized smuggling in the region.
