In a bid to tackle urban pollution and ease traffic congestion, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta set an example by ditching her official car in favor of commuting to her office via the Delhi Metro and a feeder bus. Her journey began from her official residence, Mukhyamantri Jan Seva Sadan, leading to Lok Niwas for a meeting with Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu.
Post-meeting, Gupta embarked on public transit from the Kashmere Gate Metro Station to the ITO Metro Station, and finally, she took a feeder bus to the Delhi Secretariat. Accompanying her on this public transport journey were senior leaders Parvesh Verma and Ravindra Indraj, marking support for the 'Metro Monday' initiative.
Launched under the overarching national campaign 'Mera Bharat, Mera Yogdan', the initiative saw Delhi government ministers and officials using public transport to reach their workplaces, as urged by CM Gupta. She emphasized the importance of collective citizen involvement in using buses and the Metro to address pollution and congestion.
Urging citizens to employ public transport, CM Gupta remarked, "Commuting via Metro and buses conserves fuel and is crucial for Delhi’s sustainability. With rising pollution and traffic congestion, integrating public transport into daily life is immensely beneficial." She highlighted efforts to improve last-mile connectivity and thanked citizens participating in the effort.
Joining her cabinet, MLAs, and top government officials in traveling by public transport, CM Gupta appreciated the residents who joined the 'Metro Monday' initiative. She said, "Together, we’re creating a cleaner, more efficient Delhi. This collective effort is our solution to the challenges we face, including pollution and more."
