A high-level meeting chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah underscored the government's renewed efforts to rejuvenate the Yamuna River, a vital water body flowing through the national capital. Shah assessed the progress of ongoing initiatives and directed officials to expedite restoration tasks with a structured, time-bound approach, stressing the importance of regular monitoring.
Participants resolved that the governments of Delhi, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh, alongside relevant ministries and departments, would collaborate under a unified action plan. A significant outcome was the proposal for a Memorandum of Understanding between the Municipal Corporation of Delhi and the National Dairy Development Board to transform dairy waste into biogas, reducing river pollution and supporting sustainable waste management.
Enhanced focus on desilting operations was also deliberated, with plans to utilize dredged silt commercially, thus boosting efficiency and economic gain. Emphasis was placed on stringent monitoring of sewage and industrial discharge to prevent untreated waste influx. Stakeholders reaffirmed a collective commitment to ensuring a cleaner Yamuna in the coming months.
