Federal Health Workers Demand Safety Assurance Amid CDC Attack
Over 750 U.S. Department of Health and Human Services staff have asked Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to ensure their safety after a recent shooting at the CDC. The letter demands improved emergency procedures and addresses concerns over public health worker security and misinformation about vaccines.
In the wake of a recent shooting at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), more than 750 U.S. Department of Health and Human Services staff members are calling on Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to guarantee their safety.
The appeal was made via a letter released on Wednesday, with signatories, including influential figures such as former CDC principal deputy director Anne Schuchat, urging for enhanced emergency procedures and alerts by September 2. The letter also advocates for the removal of online targeting of federal workers.
Concerns stem from the August 8 incident where a gunman attacked six CDC buildings in Atlanta, resulting in the death of police officer David Rose. Staff are accusing Kennedy of undermining public health efforts through the dismissal of key personnel and spreading vaccine misinformation.
