West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has appealed to the division bench of the Calcutta High Court, challenging a single bench order that restrains her and three others from making defamatory statements against Governor CV Ananda Bose.
During the hearing, Banerjee's counsel, S N Mookherjee, argued that the statements in question were related to public duty concerning the oath-taking of two newly-elected MLAs and were not defamatory.
The division bench, also comprising Justice Biswaroop Chowdhury, has scheduled further hearings for Thursday, allowing for Governor Bose's lawyer to make counter submissions.
