West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose reached Delhi on Monday night, amid speculations that he may meet President Droupadi Murmu and senior leaders regarding the recent rape and murder case of a woman doctor in Kolkata.

Massive protests erupted in West Bengal and doctors across the country went on strike due to the incident and ensuing allegations of a botched investigation and cover-up. On Thursday, Governor Bose visited RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, where he spoke with agitating junior doctors and assured them that justice will be served.

The Governor is likely to meet with Murmu on Tuesday. At a Raksha Bandhan event at Raj Bhavan Kolkata, where several women doctors tied rakhis around his wrists, he pledged to support efforts for a safer environment for women. Bose stressed on the need for societal change and collective action to safeguard women, saying, "In West Bengal, democracy is degenerating. This cannot go on." He emphasized, "Our society should be a place where women feel happy and secure. This is the minimum a civilised society should do."
