Historic Verdict: First Darfur War Crimes Conviction

In a landmark decision on Monday, the International Criminal Court (ICC) marked a historic achievement by convicting a militia leader for the first time for war crimes in Sudan's Darfur region.

The court held Ali Muhammad Ali Abd-Al-Rahman accountable for an array of 27 heinous crimes, including crimes against humanity and war crimes such as rape, murder, and persecution.

Though found guilty, Abd-Al-Rahman's sentencing is yet to be finalized and will be decided in a forthcoming series of hearings.
