The United Nations Security Council has taken a significant step toward resolving the conflict in Gaza by adopting a resolution that endorses U.S. President Donald Trump's peace plan. The resolution also authorizes the deployment of a multinational security force and an international guardian mechanism in the war-torn territory.
During a visit to the Philippines, Palestinian Foreign Minister Varsen Aghabekian Shahin emphasized the importance of this resolution as an initial move toward peace. However, she acknowledged that further issues, such as Palestinian self-determination and independence, still need attention, and the implementation of the plan must adhere to international law.
While the Ramallah-based Palestinian Authority has expressed its readiness to engage with Trump's plan, the Israeli government remains opposed to the idea of an independent Palestinian state. Meanwhile, a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, initiated as part of the plan, remains fragile with ongoing accusations of violations from both sides.
