A comprehensive investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has uncovered a shocking case of custodial torture involving Jammu and Kashmir Police constable Khursheed Ahmed Chowhan. The probe confirms that Chowhan suffered multiple injuries, including fractures, as a result of brutal force used by fellow officers to extract a confession.
The CBI has formally charged Deputy SP Ajaz Ahmad and others for the alleged torture. Detailed medical reports and the testimony of Sub-Inspector Manzoor Ahmad Sheikh, who witnessed Chowhan's condition at the Joint Interrogation Centre (JIC) in Kupwara, provide crucial evidence for the case.
The findings, bolstered by medical evaluations from multiple hospitals and visuals from CCTV footage, depict a damning picture of police brutality. The investigation has led to the arrest of eight officers, although some allegations, such as injuries to Chowhan's genitalia, remain unproven.
