Speaking at the International Convention on the Independence of the Judiciary, Justice B V Nagarathna expressed concern over the practice of overturning Supreme Court verdicts due to changes in judges. She insisted that judgments, like those written in ink, should retain their timeless validity.

Justice Nagarathna, addressing attendees at OP Jindal Global University, emphasized the judiciary's critical role in governance. She stressed that while judges have powers to tackle a vast array of legal questions, the respect for their judgments must not be undermined by bench changes.

Highlighting the significance of judicial independence, Justice Nagarathna noted that both judgments and judges' conduct are pillars of this independence. She and other justices warned against the alarming trend of reversing judgments, urging the preservation of public trust in the judiciary.
