A sessions court in Kerala declined to grant interim arrest protection to Rahul Mamkootathil, an expelled Congress MLA, who is implicated in a second rape case. The court has sought a police report and scheduled his anticipatory bail plea for a hearing next Monday.
Mamkootathil had earlier received interim protection from the Kerala High Court in a separate case involving rape and forced abortion. This came shortly before he approached the sessions court for anticipatory bail regarding the second allegation of sexual assault.
The allegations have led to his expulsion from the Congress party. As legal proceedings continue, he remains untraceable following the registration of the initial rape case against him last week.
